Place: Europe  GermanyTravel year: 2020

The Heide Park amusement park is relatively close to the Polish border (470 km from Szczecin). It is located in the town of Soltau (70 km from Hamburg). It’s worth going there at least once. It has plenty of attractions in all kinds of themes – from the Wild West, pirates, Transylvania and a forgotten land to water rides and fairy-tale villages. As usual in places like this, the biggest attractions are the roller coasters, including Colossos, the tallest (53 m) and fastest (up to 120 km/h) wooden roller coaster in Europe. “Desert Race” is also worth mentioning – it accelerated to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds. The park also has Krake, with a 90-degree drop. You can see most of the attractions in the video above, so enjoy watching :).

Practical information:

  • Cost per person for the whole day: from €36 (as of May 2021)
  • Parking: €6.50
  • Address: Heide Park Resort
    Heide Park 1

  • Getting there: You can take a coach to Hamburg and change to a train. You can also travel by train all the way, but it will be expensive. The earlier you book your ticket, the cheaper it is. From Wolterdingen (HAN) station it’s about a 20-minute walk to Heide Park.
  • Opening hours: 10:00 – 18:00
  • It’s worth checking whether you can get a discount – you can often get one by buying German products. In 2020, thanks to a coupon from a box of breakfast cereal, we got in for half price.

“Colossos – Kampf der Giganten”

This is the park’s biggest attraction. Just before the train enters, the colossus breathes fire. Maximum height of the coaster – 53 metres, top speed – 120 km/h, track length 1344 metres.

The “Krake” coaster

The “Krake” coaster, with a 90-degree drop, a height of up to 41 metres, a speed of up to 100 km/h and a track length of 476 metres. A moment later, a big jet of water shoots into the air from under the train.

The “Limit” coaster

Speed up to 80 km/h, maximum height 33.3 metres, track length 689 metres. On this ride I felt like I was in a Quidditch match from the world of Harry Potter. It was the only coaster where the track ran above the suspended seats.

The “Bobbahn” coaster

Speed up to 53 km/h, maximum height 27 metres. I don’t recommend it – it rattles a lot and gives you a headache. On top of that, it’s 990 metres long.

The “Flug der Dämonen” coaster

A coaster with a speed of up to 100 km/h, a maximum height of 40 metres and a length of 772 metres.

The “Monorail”
Kolejka Monorail - Heide Park

It passes all the park’s main attractions. In the background, the “Big Loop” roller coaster, with a speed of up to 63 km/h, a maximum height of 30 metres and a track length of 706 metres.

The “Grottenblitz” coaster
Kolejka Grottenblitz - Heide Park

The “Grottenblitz” coaster, with a speed of 45 km/h and a length of 370 metres, runs through a dark grotto.
